THE TOYOTA WAY

The Toyota Way

Toyota Way Overview Seminars

Course Overview:

Dr. Liker has done many overviews of the Toyota Way for public seminars and individual companies.  These have been done throughout the United State and globally in countries like Sweden, Amsterdam, UK, Germany, Russia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Korea, Mexico, Canada, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, and Slovenia.  The purpose is to convey the essence of the Toyota Way through an overview of the 4P model.  Audience interaction addresses burning questions and often dispels common myths about lean and six sigma and the Toyota Production System.

Dr. Liker has done public seminars throughout the world organized by groups as well as seminars for broad audiences inside companies such as Danfoss, Goodyear R&D, Caterpillar purchasing,  Eaton R&D, Scania R&D, Metalsa, Vermeer, Abdul Latif Jameel, Fujitsu, PTC Structural, Hertz, Boeing, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Airbus, and the Catalina Restaurant Group.  Events typically are 1-2 days and can have very large attendance ranging from 50 to 250 people.

Class Structure:

Sessions are often very large in an auditorium or ball room.  Several have been in atriums.  An open airy environment is desirable.  Public seminars are broadly advertised while company sessions can either be invited or internally advertised.

Depending on class size in some cases the audience sits at group tables and there is some table activity (e.g., reflection on what is heard and developing questions) or in other cases it is classroom style.  Typically microphones are used for questions from the audience.

Typical Schedules:

These sessions are typically one day and customized but there is a generic schedule around the 4P model:

    • Philosophy - Long-term focus
    • Processes - Eliminating waste through lean tools
    • People - Developing and challenging exceptional people and partners
    • Problem Solving - Becoming a lean learning organization
    • Learning from the Toyota Way - Typical implementation approaches and pitfalls and success factors.

Depending on the interests of the customers they may want a second day and-or a specific focus of the seminar on different application areas:

    • Lean manufacturing
    • Lean supply chain-logistics
    • Lean healthcare
    • Lean services

Cost:

With the wide range of designs and venues costs are variable.
